Interested in Coaching Girls ?
With plans to double our weekly venues from the current three during 2016, the two resources we need to put into place are suitable venues and suitable coaches. Our experience and research suggest venues can be found to host weekly activities for young girls if we can source coaches with the necessary skills.
With this in mind, and as part of our association with UCD, we will have a stand at the college’s Internship & Volunteering Fair next Wednesday, February 3rd from 1 – 4pm in the Astra Hall in UCD’s Student Centre. It’s a great opportunity for us to explain the project to young women and men who will hopefully have an interest in volunteering to coach sport to young girls for 1-2 hours a month.
While helpful, no experience of playing sport or coaching is necessary to get involved. Enthusiastic volunteers interested in child development can work really well in our project. Through our German partners in the Kicking Girls project, we will offer an initial 1 day training course with ongoing mentoring to allow new coaches find their feet as role models for the young girls attending Fun Direction. Young female athletes who want to pass on a love of their own favourite sport to the next generation of girls are ideal candidates for us. Many current female athletes, at any level, have already battled through and fully understand the unequal opportunities Fun Direction seeks to address for the current generation of young girls.
We look forward to chatting to any interested students and staff in UCD next Wednesday. If you have no connection with UCD but like the idea of coaching with us, we’d also love you to contact Ciaran through our website www.projectfundirection.com . All our coaches are Garda vetted and will be brought through our child welfare policies during training.
